I'm very laid-back when it comes to who goes where on a timeline for makeup but the one think I will stand by is for the Bride to NOT go last. Now I know what you're thinking, "I want my makeup to be the freshest", but let me explain why I don't do the Bride last for makeup.
Reducing Stress and Providing a Moment to Relax
Your wedding day is filled with excitement and, sometimes, a bit of anxiety. By scheduling your makeup second-to-last, you’ll have a moment after your makeup is complete to relax, breathe, and take in the moment before the final rush begins. Being “in the chair” as the last person can often feel like the clock is ticking a little too fast, which can make even the calmest bride feel rushed.
When you’re done with makeup and have a little time to step back, it can make a world of difference in how relaxed and ready you feel to walk down the aisle. This scheduling also gives you a chance to focus on getting dressed, taking a few moments with loved ones, or enjoying the excitement in the room without worrying about the clock.
Making the Bride’s Time in the Chair Extra Special
When you’re not the final one in the chair, I find that we can have a more peaceful experience without the pressure of being on a strict countdown. This gives you and me both the chance to enjoy the process, ensuring that every detail feels just right.
Ensuring Time for Last-Minute Adjustments
When brides are scheduled as the very last makeup application, there’s little flexibility if the schedule changes. Weddings are busy, and unexpected delays can happen.
By going second-to-last, we leave a cushion of time for minor changes, touch-ups, or adjustments to make sure your look is as flawless as possible.
Allowing Time for Touch-Ups on Both the Bride and Bridal Party
After your makeup is complete, I like to make sure the entire bridal party looks consistent and fresh. Bridesmaid makeup or family members’ makeup might need minor touch-ups, and scheduling the bride second-to-last ensures I have the time to address any little adjustments needed for anyone else in the bridal party before the ceremony. This approach helps everyone look cohesive in photos, and you can feel confident that your closest friends and family look their best without taking away any time from your look.
Choosing to go second-to-last for makeup means allowing a little extra breathing room, the luxury of time for touch-ups, and the confidence that your makeup will be as fresh and polished as possible right when you need it.
